Team

Frank Lord, MD
currently functions as Medical Director for the Silverton Hospital Network and Director of Wellspring Heart. He came to Silverton in 1974 and worked in Family medicine for 18 years. In 1992 he took on the directorship of the Emergency Department at Silverton and worked there as an ER physician until January of 2008. He owns and operates a wholesale nursery with his son and is interested in sculpting and running. He lives outside Silverton with his wife, Shari and enjoys his four children and eight grandchildren.

Sarah Fronza, MS, RD
Chronic Disease Prevention and Management Director, Sarah is also a Registered Dietitian with more than 10 years experience. She graduated from Purdue University with BS in Dietetics and a MS in Human Nutrition, with an emphasis in instructional design. She has developed numerous nutrition education curricula, including the award winning food safety program, Safe Food & You and Diabetes Action!, a guide for children with type 1 diabetes and their families. Sarah is extremely passionate about experiential nutrition education and is delighted to work with individuals and families to reduce chronic disease and improve overall health.

Michael Shapiro, DO
serves as consultant to WellspringHeart and reads all CT angiograms for program participants. Dr. Shapiro is a Cardiology Specialist at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) in Portland, where he serves as Director of Cardiac MRI and CT and Assistant Professor, Medicine. Dr. Shapiro received his Medical Degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Stratford, N.J. He served his residency at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York, N.Y., a Cardiology Fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center, and a Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Elizabeth Connor, RYT
is a Stress Management Specialist at WellspringHeart. A recent transplant from the east coast, Elizabeth served as Stress Management Specialist for the Dr. Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease at United Hospital Center in West Virginia. With over seven years experience in an integrative medicine environment, she offers clients heart healthy strategies via yoga therapy to promote transformative and sustainable lifestyle solutions. She specializes in the instruction of gentle yoga poses, breath awareness, deep rest, heart healing imagery, and meditation. These therapeutic tools are designed to promote the relaxation response of the parasympathetic nervous system and to cultivate a calm, balanced sense of well-being. Her goal is to encourage WellspringHeart participants to enjoy the relaxing, refreshing effect of her guided sessions and to integrate the tools of Stress management into their daily lives.

Elizabeth is a certified Integral Yoga Instructor, a registered Yoga Alliance teacher and served as staff for residential Yoga Teacher Trainings at the Integral Yoga Academy in Virginia. Since 1988, she has enjoyed an earnest and steady practice of yoga and meditation. As an advocate for community wellness, she designed and teaches a comprehensive stress prevention and management course for professionals, including health care providers, social workers, emergency responders, and educators. She also offers a variety of community classes such as pre-natal yoga, senior chair yoga, and stress management for teens.

Elizabeth now resides in Portland with her teenaged son and cat. In her free time, she plays the Native American flute and has fun hiking and swimming in the great outdoors.

Darlene Jost Babin, MFT
is the Group Support Facilitator at Wellspring Heart. She holds a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy/Professional Counseling from George Fox University. She has a broad range of experience in counseling with couples, families, groups, and individuals. Her theory of practice is based on therapy imparting "insight and experience of positive interaction leading to healthy adaptations and healthy relationships with self and others."

Darlene is a member of both the American and Oregon Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and has a private practice in Newberg. She is the mother of two daughters.

Stacey Wolf, RN, MSN
Stacey is a Nurse Care Guide for WellspringHeart. She has dedicated much of her 16 year nursing career to cardiac nursing, having worked in a variety of cardiac care settings from a telemetry step-down unit to a cardiac ICU. She has also worked in staff development, service line leadership and nursing management.

Growing up in the Chicago area, she followed her passion for the West and attended Montana State University on a volleyball scholarship. She graduated in 1993 with her BSN and spent several years in Montana before moving to Oregon.

She obtained her Masters Degree in Nursing in 2002, while working at OHSU. In her spare time, she enjoys golf, camping and fishing with her husband of 15 years, 7 year old son and 2 dogs, in Silverton.

Chrissy Creighton, MS, RD
Chrissy Creighton is a Nutrition Specialist for WellspringHeart. She is a Registered Dietitian who’s greatest enjoyment comes from sharing delicious and nutritious food with people of all backgrounds. Chrissy received her bachelor’s degree in English and minor in Cultural Studies from the University of Florida. She completed her Masters Degree and internship in Nutrition Science through the Coordinated Dietetics Program at California State University Los Angeles.

Her exploration of culture and strive for wellness intersects at delicious food. She loves being adventurous in the kitchen and creating new tantalizing dishes that delight the taste buds and nourish the body. While she has many areas of interest within nutrition, her most focused passion is to support individuals along their unique road to wellness. Chrissy has loved to cook since she was a child, and enjoys traveling to try new foods and share different cultures. She enjoys yoga, hiking, camping, biking, and is learning to grow her own organic fruit and vegetables.

Cliff Franz, Med
In his role as Exercise Physiologist, Cliff guides participants through 12 weeks of the exercise component of the WellspringHeart Program. Prior to this position, Cliff served as the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department Head at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cleveland, OH, and as Fitness Program Manager for the U.S. Air Force in California and Tokyo, Japan. In both roles he designed individualized exercise prescriptions for a wide range of fitness levels and instructed classes in Weight Management, Diabetes Exercise, and Fitness Improvement.

Movement has always been an important part of Cliff's life. As a high school and college athlete, he competed as a sprinter and long jumper in track and field and has been a runner since age 9. He discovered trail running while living overseas and has run in 30 countries. Cliff received his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Auburn University. He earned a Master's Degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Exercise Physiology from Auburn University, with additional certification as a Health Fitness Instructor from the American College of Sports Medicine. He has a special interest in nutrition, is an Olympic Games enthusiast, and is a New Orleans, LA native.

Tricia J. McMahon, D.Min
Tricia comes to her position as Program Coordinator for WellspringHeart with a passion for wellness and a wealth of experience in program planning and community outreach. Undergraduate studies in Public Health and doctorate in Spirituality underscore her depth of commitment and insight for the care and empowerment of others. Prior to moving to Oregon, Tricia was co-founder and Executive Director of HERS Breast Cancer Foundation in California. "HERS, and it's premier program Bras for Body & Soul, was a way for me to help women care for the beauty and blessing of their bodies, their lives, especially when faced with difficult circumstances."

Participation in the WellspringHeart one week Immersion Retreat in April 2009 was transformative for Tricia's own life in ways never imagined. To now be part of the WellspringHeart team is, as she says, "a joy and an honor. I am grateful to be part of each participant’s journey of heart-healthy living!”

Mary Jean Collier, RN
earned her Nursing Degree from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1984. Mary Jean has twenty four years of cardiac nursing experience and a passion for cardiac care. Her experience includes cardiac telemetry and coronary care unit nursing, creating teaching publications for patents and managing a growing practice for a leading group of cardiologists. She served as a volunteer fire department first responder and providided first responder education certification. Mary Jean was recognized for her excellence in nursing by Methodist Healthcare, receiving the "Nursing Stars" honor being nominated by her peers, management and patients. She also received the "Miracles in Motion" award by inspiring her associates to emulate her actions in service and in care. The majority of her career has been served in the Memphis,Tennessee community. In 2007 Mary Jean and her husband Alan moved to Oregon to be closer to their family and to enjoy the beauty of Oregon.
